If you have an American Express Rewards card and like dining out at New Zealand restaurants, you now have an option to use your American Express Membership Rewards points to pay for your meals and beverages at restaurants across the country. What restaurants are included in the Amex rewards program?
There are currently 85 restaurants across the North and South Islands that are participating in the NZ Dining Collection Dine with Points program, and the number is growing. View the full list.
How many points do you need to pay for a restaurant meal with Amex reward points?
The NZ Dining Collection Dine with Points reward gives you 50% more value for your Amex reward points. So, for example, a points balance of 30,000 would convert to $225 under the program, compared to $150 under the Amex points conversion for other reward programs.
1,000 points equal $7.50 credit, which is the minimum redemption amount.
So depending on whether you’re looking for fine dining or a budget-friendly meal, 10,000 points (equivalent to $75) should get you and a friend a decent meal each.
How do you pay for a restaurant meal with your Amex reward points?
If you’re an Amex reward card holder with some points in the bank, paying with points is a simple 3-step process.
Step 1: Make sure you eat at one of the participating restaurants.
Step 2: When it comes time to pay, open your Amex App.
Step 3: Select your Dining Collection transaction and then ‘Use Points’.
You will then receive a credit for the transaction amount within 72 hours after you redeem points.
It’s important to note that you must be enrolled in the Membership Rewards program (which is very simple to do), and your Amex accounts must be in good standing in order to pay with points.
How do I earn Amex reward points?
You can earn Amex reward points by using your Amex Membership Rewards Credit Card for eligible purchases you make. When you do, you earn rewards points that you can redeem for a variety of different rewards, including the Dine with Points offer. Unlike many credit card reward programs, Amex reward points never expire, and there is no cap on the amount of points you can earn.
